Footprint Music Limited is a specialist rights and licensing consultancy focused solely on the music and entertainment industry. Established in 1994, we're well established and have an enviable client base, including major international entertainment companies such as Discovery, Disney, NBCUniversal, Warner Media, Sony, Nordic Entertainment, Vice and Viasat World. We offer expert strategic advice and risk analysis in relation to collecting society rights, and we negotiate licences for all linear and non-linear media, including TV and radio, video on demand, podcast and other online and mobile platforms. Our reputation for reliability has helped us build valuable working relationships with a wide variety of media organisations, programme makers and content providers.

An exciting new position has arisen for a candidate with legal experience in collecting society music licensing to join the well-established Footprint Music licensing team.

You will be responsible for handling all the contracts with collecting societies in the UK and outside the UK on behalf of our diverse and international client base, including TV and radio broadcasters, video-on-demand services, content producers, podcast hosts and other digital services. You will be required to review, draft and finalise the licence agreements, working closely with the rest of the licensing team and our clients. You will also be responsible for handling agreements with other rights holders, including music publishers and record labels, and advising on music clauses within content production, acquisition and distribution agreements.

You will take the lead on negotiating licence fees and other commercial terms with various UK and ex-UK collecting societies on behalf of some of our clients. This will include running calculations, analysing data and advising clients.

The role will also require you to be responsible for taking the lead on legal & regulatory matters at Footprint Music. This will entail you keeping abreast of developments in copyright law and music licensing, analysing new legislation and cases, and advising both the licensing team at Footprint Music and our clients on impacts and risks. This will include writing articles and briefing notes and doing presentations.

You need to have an excellent understanding of music rights and collecting society licensing and proven experience of negotiating and drafting licences with collecting societies and other rights holders. You also need an excellent understanding of copyright and music law and be able to analyse and summarise legislation and cases. You would preferably have experience of working in a legal capacity in the audio-visual media sector (broadcaster, video-on-demand or other online service). You need to have excellent written and spoken English and good numeracy skills. You need to be a good communicator and a team player. You need to be pragmatic with a good commercial mindset.

To be successful you must have a strong academic background and relevant experience gained at a highly regarded law firm or in-house at a media company. You will have the ability to work autonomously, think strategically and creatively and communicate clearly and precisely. You must be enthusiastic, proactive, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment. You will be able to build, keep and maintain good relations in the industry and become an integral part of the Footprint Music.

This is an active role and they will be conducting interviews via videoconference and if necessary will onboard new joiners remotely.
