An exciting opportunity for a German qualified lawyer with an interest in renewable power to join the UK Trading & Shipping (T&S) team of one of the world's 'supermajor' energy companies as they continue their transition from traditional sources of power into renewable and low carbon energy sources. Renewable power, biogas and low carbon products are central to the business's new strategy and net carbon ambitions, with Germany being identified as a strategic market in Europe and as such the dedicated legal team is experiencing ever increasing demands for its services.

Reporting to the Managing Counsel for the Gas, Power & Low Carbon Trading team, you will provide vital legal support for T&S's European natural gas, biomethane and power trading and origination businesses, in particular in relation to German based projects and German language/law contracts. In this varied role you will also be responsible for negotiating and advising on trading, supply and purchase contracts (both industry standard and bespoke) a well as advising on joint venture and financing structures as well as support key internal business functions as the new strategy develops.

Ideally, you will be 4+ years German qualified lawyer with strong training in a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel (working in the power industry). Experience of the energy or commodity trading and supply markets and contracts will be required for the role, together with an interest in working in the low carbon or natural gas/bio-gas areas, for which no prior experience is required. The ideal candidate will have strong drafting skills in both German & English and be a strong team player that is confident working closely with originators, traders and various internal business functions as well as being comfortable working on global matters across various different cultures.
